SIGNAL HILL, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada
On the top left of the photograph is Historic Signal Hill and the Cabot Tower, with a view to the Atlantic Ocean, where one could often see whales and icebergs. On 12 December 1901, the first transatlantic wireless transmission was received here by Guglielmo Marconi. My view of the harbour shows some of the beauty of the area and the major significance that the geography provided for war time defence.
