Professional Recipes in 3 Steps
Step 1: Recipe Preparation
Pre-Production Meeting & Recipe Development
The foundation to all great food recipe photography is professional recipe development. To better understand the objective of the recipe, the BP imaging team meets with the client to review the scope of the project and detail key information to ensure that the objective is met and the project runs as efficiently as possible. Some of the items discussed include photo shoot scheduling, the number of recipes that need to be developed, styled & photographed and how the recipe photography will be used (magazine, cookbook, online, etc.). After the initial meeting with the client we draft customized recipes based on the client’s specific products and requirements, whether for a special occasion, allergy safe, seasonal dish, etc. This research and creative brainstorming stage is essential to ensure the objective is met for the new recipe marketing strategy.
Ingredient Grocery Shopping & Prop Sourcing
After the initial client meeting and finalizing the requirement for recipe development, we commence with researching and collecting ingredients and props for the photo shoot. Ingredients can vary largely based on the requirements of the recipe. The type of dish (dessert, breakfast, beverage, appetizer, cocktail, main, etc.) and the theme of the dish (Christmas, summer, wedding, Thanksgiving, kid-friendly, etc.) play an important role in the selection of ingredients and props for the shoot. Propping is not always considered in the process, but is a great way to create an environment to match the theme of the recipe. Whether you want to add more drama for a seasonal fall dish or a more upbeat and colourful mood for summer & spring dishes, the possibilities are endless.
Step 2: Photo Shoot
Dish Preparation & Professional Food Styling
After we source the ingredients and props for each recipe shot, the food styling process is carefully planned so that multiple recipes can be efficiently photographed in one day. This preparation process is critical in order to maintain the photo shoot schedule. On the day of the photo shoot, we prepare the food for the recipes (if required) and our food stylist and prop stylist both work together with our food photographer to arrange the props, dishes and food to look fresh and appealing.
Professional Recipe Photography (with Optional Video)
Our professional food photographers have the talent and skill you can trust with over 30 years of experience shooting food for commercial clients. Over the years they have perfected the craft of image retouching and colour correction to display each image at its absolute best.
Recipe photography is a great way to market your products in a realistic environment presented in a format that consumers can prepare themselves. To further your marketing efforts, we also provide high definition recipe video production for the meal preparation process. The video is customized to your needs and can show the step by step stages of creating the dish from cooking in the kitchen to the serving up on the plate.
Step 3: Recipe Launch and File Management
Online Launch – Social Media and Website
At the initial launch of your recipe it is important to engage as many followers and fans as possible. We can assist you in launching your recipe photography and video to the public on your social media, blog and website. Brand pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Google+ and YouTube as well as your blog are all effective ways to spread the word about your latest recipe offerings. At BP imaging we can offer you guidance to get the most from your marketing investment.
