As photographers, we are always on the lookout for awesome and innovative ways of getting the shot. This video showing clips from a commercial created for the Tourism Partnership of Niagara by SkyMotion Video is a great example of the type of innovation BP Imaging strives toward. Using a state-of-the-art helicopter drone with a Canon 5D MkIII attached, this video captures scenes a normal-sized helicopter wouldn’t be able to achieve. Because remote-controlled helicopters aren’t limited by size and minimum altitude restrictions like normal helicopters, this drone was able to capture rarely seen angles of the falls and the Niagara region. Flying only a few feet above the water, the camera was able to approach the waterfall edge to give the viewer a true sense of the sheer scale of the world-famous falls.
So many videos ignore other areas of the Niagara region, focusing instead on the majesty of the falls. While the falls are spectacular, Niagara has so much more to offer – and with the helicopter drone, everything from vineyards to casinos is beautifully rendered in vivid wide-angle.
Another bonus to remote-controlled helicopter cameras are the amazing angles. This video isn’t limited to just aerial views of forests or landscapes, it showcases street-level angles to capture amazing architecture and awesome interior shots of the Jackson Triggs wine cellars. These angles give the viewer an “in-the-driver’s-seat” experience, almost as if the audience is flying with the camera!
Here at BP imaging, we are always looking for new and innovative ways of looking at things, so we are inspired by this video! This through-the-lens experience is something we also try to achieve through our photography – Check out our trip over the Trent-Severn Waterway to see our own aerial captures: http://www.bpimaging.com/blog/a-trip-over-the-trent-severn-waterway/
