Background Tavern Set Photography
In January, BP imaging took on the task of photographing the background for a theatre set to be displayed on Princess Cruise Lines for Great Lakes Scenic Studios. The requirements for this photo shoot were very specific, photograph the background on location (built by Great Lakes Scenic Studios) and provide a file to be printed at 8 feet high by 40 feet wide! The file size for this job was extremely large because John Majorossy had to photograph and capture the massive amount of detail to be portrayed as a real background set.
The set to be photographed was a tavern scene and knowing that John used his expertise to create “a copy job with a twist.” He decided to light the background as if it were a tavern to give it some mood and hopefully match what the lighting would be on the actual set on the cruise boat. In order to capture this photograph with maximum quality, John chose to use the P40 back with a stationary camera using our VR bracket. This is where the “twist” came into play, he shot the background at 6 different exposures and let the software do the rest to stitch it all together. In the end, the file size was around 1.5 gigabytes (GB) which printed beautifully thanks to the knowledge, skill and professional equipment at BP imaging. The image above is the final photograph that was close cropped and set on a black background. As you can imagine, the massive size of this printed requires the detail to be spot on in order to create a life like background. The image at the bottom of the post shows the raw photography shot on location at Great Lakes Scenic Studios, as you can see John used his photo imaging expertise to optimize the photograph for the client.
